Atari 5200 (Four
Port)
In 1981 the Atari 5200 was developed based
upon the 800 design.
It had four joystick ports (same as the Atari 800 computer). It
also toyed with power supply & TV RF Adaptor - combining them for
reduced cost. It also eliminated the manual TV switchbox - it would
automatically switch to the 5200 when powered.
In a second iteration, the design was changed to use a standard RF adaptor and the power supply
plugged directly into the 5200. This later version of the 5200 only
had two joystick ports (to balance the cost changes).
